artemshmeriga
Hello i need help identifying this glaze an artist I follow uses. It is a bright red glaze that when fired crated a wonderful golden color. I cannot find info on it anywhere and would really like some help. Roberta12
That appears to be gold luster. You paint it on already glazed pots and fire again to 017 or 018. Min, Bill Kielb and Callie Beller Diesel
carolross
I’d try to contact the artist and ask. As you can tell from these forums, clay people are very generous and, from my own experience, are almost always happy to share and help out. Good luck! The first photo does look like gold luster, but I don’t think it’s ever red when applied. Although you might achieve the same results with luster. oops - my mistake! I wasn’t aware that gold lustre could have a red brushing medium. My apologies! Thank you Do you have a more naturally lit photo of the glaze, the highlights on all three glazes are rather overpowering. Or perhaps you can share the name of the artist so we can see their work on the net.
JohnnyK
I would say that you are looking at 2 different mugs because the base color of the mugs is different and the gold highlights on the bows are in different places than the red spots and they are raised like they are attached nuggets... Callie Beller Diesel
The brushing medium on the gold lustre I’ve used is most definitely red. The second image is the artist applying it before firing. That is definitely gold lustre. Rae Reich and Bill Kielb
PeterH
To illustrate the consensus. Best before&after red-to-gold pics I could find, in this case gold lustre on glass.https://glasswithapast.com/knowledgebase/gold-and-palladium-lusters-on-glass/ Excuse the large pictures, but the colours don't show up as well in small ones. Bill Kielb
All the gold luster we have used is red and needed to be applied to 100% coverage, else streaky gold. Can reapply and bake again to fix though. Looks like gold luster to me, before and after.
