Hulk got a reaction from LeeU for a gallery image, lampway
I'd forgotten how helpful this roll around office lamp can be! ...having recently rearranged things to leave this "lamp way" in anticipation of a glazing session, today I pulled it over for glaze inspections. Setting for side light, the tiny pits that sometimes show up - easily repaired with a small pointy brush - are much easier to see. -

Hulk got a reaction from Roberta12 for a gallery image, On Target! ...buff bloats big time
I had some buff clay to reclaim, and a small amount of speckled buff. I mixed them together. Uh-oh, major bloatware! The buff would take firing over cone 5, but minor problems start when fired over cone 5 and get worse with more heat work. The speckled buff seemed more tolerant going over cone 5. Together, eeh, no.
First few glaze fires in the new kiln, too much heat work, well over cone 6. This is more like it, left to right is top to bottom, where there's a five cone on each plaque, five & six where doubled up.

Hulk got a reaction from JohnnyK for a gallery image, Side lighthing
Roll around lamp on the left highlights surface detail. Here I'm set to dip this jar (it's a jar!) upside down in glaze. The inside and lip are liner glazed and waxed. I like using tape! I started taping feet early on. It provides a handle for dipping and a clean glaze line. Notes: The notch/groove at the top of the foot makes a line to tape to, and a bold glaze edge. Be sure to stick the end of the tape to the beginning, else it pops loose and you drop the ware into the glaze! Fold back the very end, much easier to remove the masking when you've thought ahead and left a tab.

Hulk reacted to Hyn Patty for a gallery image, Rising Hopes to Bay Tobiano
An older piece of my custom glaze work, this is 'Rising Hopes', a foal sculpted by Dr. Nanse Browne-Czipri and produced in fine bone china by Alchemy Ceramics of England around 2004. This is a rather large piece, larger than 'traditional scale' for table top sculpture for a foal. This piece measures something like 7 inches tall by 9 inches. Only approximately 7 pieces exist of what was supposed to be a 50 piece edition, four of which I glazed myself to various colors. This one I did to a bay tobiano using underglazes and finished with clear satin in 2007 - private collection.
