  2. Second pottery class tonight. Saw a raku firing done for the first time. Threw another pot, started a hand-built berry bowl and sig stamp. got to show off a couple of my self-made jewelery molds. Glazed my things for raku firing next week. Fun times.

  3. Started a short (1 month only) pottery class last night. Touched a wheel for the first time in 8 years. Given my past experiences I think I was a trooper. Made a pot-thing sort of then ran out of time. Hand built a couple more. It was very mellow. Long drive there/back. To my surprise we'll be given KEYS TO THE STUDIO and can come in and basically do 'lab' work unsupervised any time there isn't another class on. This is a fully equipped college pottery room and I'm delight...

  4. Q's: Is it Craft or is it Art? You and I may have one idea about a piece of ceramic, while trust me, the oil painters in the gallery/art school/art faire may have another. (Personally, if it's non-utilitarian IMO it's art. But some utilitarian work is so artistic it crosses the line into Art as well. Also, it's a bit like defining God, I feel a bit full of myself just trying. Your opinion may differ.) Is there a genre of ceramics that you hate? Hopefully no one will get offended. You'll notice I didn't give an opinion. Do you tend to end up using the same general color schemes in your glaze work intentionally or unintentionally? (I do. It's various whites over dark clays, usually with the speckles coming through.) (I'm sure I can come up with a few more questions of the noobish sort, just can't think of them right now.)

    Call it a silent hobby.

Could this be a Lisa Larson figure? The original Star Trek series was filmed when her work was popular. Sorry for the lousy image.

Some future earthy Christmas ornaments. Planning some simple pottery glazes in brown and white, and some maple leaves in bright underglazes.

At least it turned out nearly flawless. Large 12" across, planter from a gritty brown stoneware with off-white slip painting under clear glaze. Formed inside an automotive oil pan with coils.

First attempt at a free-standing sculpture. Cracks formed in firing. Didn't get body wall even thickness.

Doll parts. Off-white clay with a yellow ochre pottery glaze. I was thinking about joining these to a driftwood and wire body for an uber primitive bit of mixed media figure sculpture.

Bit off more than I could chew, one fin popped off after another. Went for a swim in the scrap bucket. Will try again someday soon.
