firenflux got a reaction from Pyewackette for a gallery image, wave Jar
This is a jar I threw in one piece, incised the lid then trimmed them apart. The whole piece is covered in various engobes and underglazes, carved and fired in an electric kiln.

The waves are more subtle on this piece. I coat the bottom in white engobe then carve the textured lines around the waves.

This is my favorite piece I have made to date. I sold it about a year ago but haven't made another one yet. It's wheel thrown with applied colored engobes. It's hand carved and textured with pulled handles and commercial glazes. Fired to ^6 electric.

I do a lot of this nautical wave pattern on my pieces. this was the first cup I stacked 2 of the patterns on top of each other. I actually meant to glaze the interior with a different liner but I really liked the combination anyway after it was fired. applied engobe, with sgraffito, commercial glazes. Fired ^6 electric.

This vase is about 6 square. I threw it then carved grooves in the top and bottom. The grooved sections get a couple coats of black engobe because I like the way the glaze looks over the black. The middle is black engobe with paper branches then blue engobe then the paper is peeled off. It has commercial glazes and was fired to cone 6 in my electric kiln. I tried to get fancy with the picture.

I love all the varied shapes a good mug comes in. The shape is my current favorite. It works well to separate the textured areas from the geometric sgraffito in the bottom. It has a pulled handle and commercial glazes and was fired to cone 6 electric.

I cannot believe how wonderfully bright these colors turned out! The terracotta didn't alter the underglaze at all. Soooo happy with this chubby lil' guy!

A small set of hand-built mugs (slab construction) with wheel-thrown rims for family friends...both of whom are musically gifted. The orange has a look of atmospheric firing, but it is actually Amaco Velvet orange underglaze. The sheen over the underglaze is from a light coating of clear. The interior and rim were dipped in Woo's Blue. The details on the piano keys are brushed on. All of the rest of the glazing was sprayed. These are 12oz (.35ml) and stand approximately 5in. (12.7cm) tall. These were fired to Cone 10 in reduction.
