Yay, I went to my first craft market today. My wife and I had a great time. There was only about 15 vendors, but I was the only potter. I sold almost everything and even got some commissions. I want to thank you all, for your kindness, acceptance and support. Along with all your great advice I was able to feel confident that I could do this. It wasn't about the money, but it was ok, but just knowing that I have friendships that care about me, makes me a millionair. I couldn't have don...

Freudian slip.
-
Yup.

It's been wet, hot and humid here lately. And very little wind to cool down with. I got my fan and an exhaust ceiling fan going and it still get around 90 degrees. But I plan to make some more mugs and fire a small load starting tomorrow evening. When it is cooler. How's your weather?

Good on you Amy. That's the positive mental atitude we all need.

Here in Switzerland it's rainy and cold. Temps in the 64 F... (sad Smilie here)

Evelyne, please send some of that cool down my way.

Anyone miss me? I got locked out when I changed my email.

Actually no, Joel, it was me. I switched my email and had not made the verification, after I saved my new email. Somehow, it made me outcast. But being somewhat tech savvy, I did fix it. So never going to forget this experience.
-
Very glad that you recovered from the switch in emails...and welcome back!
-
Thanks Paul. It was scary. I felt so alone, it was cold. And dark. But I'm better. lol. Always good to be here.
-
Losing heat. My lid has gaps. Any suggestions?

Mark, yes it is ceramic fiber blanket.

Wood stove shop-must have some in your town?

Going with Glazenerd's recommendation. Thank you all for the positive feedback. Just don't send me a bill...ok? LOL (marko, yes, good people, my Precious, yes, good)

I just started working with a ^5 laguna that I took to ^6. got some translucency. but not overall. Guess I need to go thinner. Help

I have been teaching myself to use less water. I set out one cup of water to throw 3-5lbs of porcelain. It forces you to use less water.
-
Going with the original question .. which Laguna clay are you trying to get translucent?? Not all Cone 5/6 porcelain will be no matter how you fire them.
-
Chris, TBH, I don't remember. I had thrown the box away and without thinking about what clay it was. I know it was porcelain because I maked it on the bag that I had soaked in a 5 gal bucket. Mystery Porcelain:P. I like working with it. I get my clay from either, http://www.roadrunnerceramics.com/ in San Antonio or http://www.armadilloclay.com/ in Austin, Tx. This clay has some translucency in some parts. I would love a recommendation.

Had laser surgery on my left eye due to retinal tears. The floaters are annoying me.
- Show previous comments 9 more
-
mark, have always had them but when my cataract surgery was done in 02 they mostly disappeared. until an accident when i hit the tree going over the edge of the road. i think the surgeon stirred up the stuff inside the eye.
-
Are you recovering from the surgery? Yep the floaters are a pain, but you can still see the clay, right??
-
Yup, visions fine. And I think the floaters went on vacation, or that lump of clay is a mighty big floater, LOL. But, I'm fine tha k you Roberta.
-
My kiln is down. And I ordered parts from The Ceramic Shop, that ordered the parts I need, but Paragon sent my, drop ship order to The ceramic Shop, that sent my shippment to Paragon. I ordered it 6-2-12. This real suks. I'm so depressed. I live 7 hours from Paragon. So dpressed, I don't want to do anything. Nothing.

Bowls>guns. Good decision. í ½í¸

Thank you my friends. I'm glad someone took the time to listen when I felt bad.
-
That's what we're here for.

Almost done hanging drywall on my studio ceiling. 8 sheet done 4 to go. And singing, "all by myself". Yup, I'll be happy to wedge a ton of clay after this.

Marko My husband and son hung the sheetrock in my studio and the garage. I taped and mudded it, then paint and wallpapered the studio. The garage just got a rough coat of mud. We didn't have to mess with the ceilings. They had to be finished when the house was built.
-
Oh oh oh, Marko, you are a handyman! Go quick to the newest QOTW and tell us what else you can do with your hands, besides making beautiful pottery!
-
Impressive in that heat. You'll be happy working in the walled space. Its worth it!
-
100 degrees in the studio. 115 degrees put side. And trying to get my kiln fixed. Waiting on parts, again. I think maybe the heats getting to me. I told my wife I wanted to quit.

Got that covered Mark C.

glazenerd, it happens, even to the best of them, but this is mine and I am a sensitively expressive.
-
Paragon sent me the wrong bottom elements. Hey, 2 out of 3 ain't bad, just happens, right. Go glazing.
-
Lately, I have been at a loss to decorate, anything. I have no problem throwing, just what to do next. I just look a pots and wonder.

glazenerd, you're right about looking at other artist. And I did see a post here that led me to learn about Rick Hintze. I love his work. But I am always afraid of doing work like someone else. I feel guilty. And have you been to Joseph's website. He has such a gift. I love how he has come along and made great progress in glaze and pottery style of his own. He must have some Japanese potter blood. Inspired.

alabama, yup, I'm going this way then that way. My noodles have been fried and MIA. But I hear you and Giselle. I do need to make notes and settle on one thing at a time. I guess it would be better to do a lot of one thing, than a whole lot of nothing. Thanks.
-
But one thing is for sure. I'm happy to have friends like you all. Thanks everyone for the support. A kick in my potty pants might help.
-
Still feeling pain from the cortisone shot my doctor gave me. I can't even make a fist. I hope it ends soon. I miss being in the studio.

I threw some pots today, but I didn't push it. I had soreness, and now it's throbbing. I wanted to catch up here so I'll just ice it in a little bit. Thanks all. Never been to a raku in the tropics, but wouldn't it be lovely?
-
Get well soon Marko. Is it helping though, the shot? In 3 days I have to do carpal tunnel surgery. Think of me please.
-
Thank you Evelyne, today I am feeling much better. And I will think health and healing thoughts for you in my meditation. I know you will do well and you will be making many more wonderful artworks. I know it will be difficult, but you are a strong person and recovery will be easy for you. Just take it easy on yourself. Marko

Has anyone started using Amazon's Handmade sellers market?
- Show previous comments 5 more

I really appreciate the info so it doesn't come as a surprise. I have some thinking to do.
-
I am checking it out, but maybe not so fast.
-
Yeahh ... I need to know whether they're claiming a right to our designs. They sent me the invite today so I'm going to carefully read everything.
-
How in the world do people on Amazon Handmade, that just opened today, get so many reviews? And the reviews are pre setup.

I've been veeeeeeeery slow to get this going. I have been spending more time making stuff. Who knows, maybe they will come and do it for "Great Marko Antonio," oh snap, I was dreaming, LOL. I guess it will get done one day. Don't sweat it. You will find what's right for you when it is right.
-
I'm still undecided whether this IS right for me ....
-
I don't like the fee. It bothers me that they could, at a future date, require me to pay for the Pro, which is needed in order to sell on Amazon. I believe it is 39.95 per month. Gesh, I would have to sell a lot to justify paying that. So, I have decided to continue making new stuff, stocking it for shows after I have at least 200 - 500 pieces. I know that's not much, but it's a goal, for now. I have always folled my gut feelings, and Amazon just doestn't fit in right now. I s...

I just replaced all 12 elements. Should I fire empty or with a load?

Changing elements tests just how much patience one has.
-
I now have a better understanding of just that, glazenerd. But, I actually enjoyed putting it all back together. I should mention that I also changed 2 timers, 2 power relays, 5 12 gauge wires and a power controller. I enjoyed it so much that I forgot how long it took to get parts and how hot the day was.
But, it took a toll on my back and hamstrings. So I slept in, but then went and did an empty fire, as Marcia and Richard suggested. Then I made a 5 gal of my favorite base glaze and 5...

How many words do I get? I keep forgetting and get cut off. Can I get a word counter? LOL

Man, did you know that uncooked corn on the cob is so good? I love it. No salt or butter needed. Very sweet yellow organic corn. Yum.

Cut the fresh stuff off the cob and make salsa! Yum.
-
mmmmm salsa. Doh! Thanks Diesel.
-
I grow some in the garden. I boil it in water with a stick of butter and some milk. Adds to the flavor.
-
I had some Laguna ^5 Porcelain sitting around in a 5gal bucket for a year or so. Sooo, I cleaned my wheel of stoneware (spotless) and my tools, so I made some candle holders with in the Mishima technique. Do you think it would be better to fire with a clear glaze of without? I want the colors in the design to be bright.
- Show previous comments 4 more
-
Yes you can. You will see some color shifts, pending the amount of iron in your stoneware clay. Colors will be brighter, different hues perhaps.
-
again, I concur with the venerable Nerd. I go back and forth from porcelain to a white stoneware.
-
Thank you, good people.

Been sick with some kind of flu bug since Thursday. Had to miss a market show. Hopefully I can get back in the shop on Tuesday. That's my Dr Wife's orders.

My son bought a broken one at the DAV and fixed it. Wore it out and fixed it again. Then it was broken in a move and he had to fix it again. They took it to the remote island they live on so they can print our anything they need.

Smart kid.

3d printers are so awesome. My son wants one so bad. Hope it goes well for your mark.

Nice and overcast in the morning, afternoon will be sunny with a lovely breeze, around 80. Just gorgeous weather.
-
Looks like we all had some good and bad times with the weather. But one thing that makes it all better is what we do with clay and glazes. Having a better day today everyone.
Oh, and Giselle, please send everyone some of that lovely weather. You can send me the bill.

Okay I'll do my best! :)

Hope everyone feels better. I hadn't had the flu in many years and then my wife got sick. So glad we're on the end of it. Gosh Mea, you're a trooper. I think I would not have gone. You're a tough one. Get some rest everyone.
-
Glad your getting over yours. I am about over mine as well. My son was out from school all week with me, took him to the doctor 2 times, fever 103. Finally got in the garage today and got some elements ordered. So much to do. So little time!
-
Wow, 103 is bad. Hope he's and you are doing better. I went to 102. And my head felt like someone took a blender to it. My wife also got sick. But she's getting better. I wish I could say the same for my Orton AutoFire 3000. But I'm working with Jim, the head engineer, to find a fix for it. The controller is a stand alone wall mount that I plug my Duncan kiln into. It makes a manual kiln an electric, in theory. But just before christmas it started acting up and cutting my kiln off...

Flu's been getting me down all week, but feeling positive it's gonna end, hehe.

eat some soup and rest. This too will pass. I had it right after I got my flu shot.

Nothing we can't drive through. Just a constant on and off rain. I live in a no flood zone, but lots of other folks got some flooding. Not the worst I've ever seen.
How did you fair?
-
We got 3 " yesterday afternoon. then just constant gentle rain. Today is windy. Some flooding in town but not too close to us. McAllen and Weslaco got more direct hits.
-
Glad you're okay. I thought you were going to get the largest US flooding and wind damage.

Getting pains in my left thumb and thumb pad. And some tingling in my fingers too. Is that carpal tunnel?
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
Talk to a therapist or google hand exercises to relieve the pain.Stretching individual fingers back one at a time, placing the hand flat on a table face down pull up each finger. there are more.
-
my hubby had it and yes it was tingling. he had a nerve test to confirm and surgery on each hand. a permanant fix. see a hand specialist.
-
I had surgery on both hands in 1982. I can get the tingling again but I give myself a break, exercise the wrist bends and finger stretches.
