Evelyne, glad you made it home from the wild, wild west! No longer a need for the search party. :)

  3. Gave my daughter the Starfish tray (in my gallery/smalls) for her birthday and she loved it - she's persnickety and likes "pretty", which is not my style at all, usually. So "mom did good" :)

  4. First full day of NCECA with bus tours to galleries.

Were Airstreams built in Kansas? What's the connection b/n clay conferences and trailers? I lived in an Airstream in 1960 for à couple of years!!! I guess they'd make a nice pottery studio!

Take time to look at pottery books. Two of my favorites are German Stoneware pottery and preindustrial utensils. I also liked If These Pots Could Talk. See local library's for inner library loans.

      Get rested up.

  8. Hillbilly hosed off my clay clothes outside while pinned to my chain link fence today. I'm sure the neighbors were impressed.

So, how was Hillbilly able to reach the hose while he was pinned to the fence? I'd be impressed too! :)

I remember when the Chevy Novas came out in the late 60s or early 70s. They were selling great in the US and Canada, but not so much in Latin America. No one knew why until someone informed them, that nova, translates to "no go"! Not good for a car! :)

  11. That moment when the cone 10 glaze firing is well underway, you are cleaning up the glazing table, and suddenly there is an out-of-place container of low-fire glaze sitting in front of you...

  12. an archaeologist friend of mine is currently working on the relocation of southeastern Indian tribes based on cerarefevidence. After the collapse of the chiefdom societies the tribes dispersed in all directions leaving a trail of ceramic debris. The timeline is from 1050 to 1700 CE!

That should read...based on ceramic evidence.

I'll take the "do remember me..." over the "Hey, can I pitch a tent in yore driveway and look over your shoulder for 3 days whiles you makes and fire pottery...you won't even know I'm thar!" :)

I sometimes wonder that after I'm cremated if the only thing left will be a glazed ceramic cast of my lungs. :)

  18. Just threw off the hump for the first time. Can't wait to get more clay to try a larger amount! A very exciting evening all round. :-D

Throwing off the hump isn't for me. I usually make knobs off the hump. The last time I made copies of 17th century tax accessor's ink wells with small handles on each side.

      That worked pretty good.

Back in the 80s I was the researcher for a amateur underwater salvage co. and ran across an article on à California shipwreck. It crashed into the rocks along the coast and was sinking. Someone went by the office to find the purser stuffing his pockets with gold coins from the safe. He told him hey, you can't swim with all that money! I know that, all my life I wanted to die rich...nows my chance!

  22. I'm determined to throw tomorrow no matter what! My son knows how to make peanut butter sandwiches, he can make lunch for both of us and feed me at the wheel! ;)

I like Satsumas from LA. (Lower Alabama). Satsumas are tangerines but tangerines are NOT Satsumas! Make a list of what you plan to throw. Copy from an example. Use the example as a blueprint, to let you know what and when to do the next step.

  25. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this pulled handles business! :D

    1. alabama

      alabama

Pulled handles are the best. I've seen handles thrown on à wheel, rolled on à table, and of course extruded. I'd rank them 1. Pulled, 2. Extruded, 3.rolled,4. Thrown.
