My instructor told us to pull a few more handles than needed, then choose the best ones for each vessel!

  2. Gt a bisque fired last night. Lots of rain coming in from the Gulf and from Hurricane Patricia. Looks like Austin may get 20 inches. We may get 5.

  3. Finally found the book I have been looking for online, so I bought two copies. Its name is "Aboriginal Pottery of the Southeastern United States", by Holmes. So far, the books purchased for this article I haven't written has cost $200. On the bright side, they're pretty good references. See ya later.

  4. Most recent bought books: Domestic Pottery of the Northeastern United States, 1625 - 1850, 250 Tips, Techniques, & Trade secrets for Potters, Early History of the Creek Indians and their Neighbors, Creek Indian History, and Indians of the Southeast.

Most glazes turn out better if thinned. Add water, double dip the rim. If the rim is better take water out. If the body is better, don't double dip the rim!

  7. Hey, anybody just dump a beer in their obvara brew? seems like it might jack it up quickly but what do i know.

Oh, I was just thinking that if obvara was made from yeast and sugar and wine was made from yeast and sugar, it might be better than beer since it has darker pigments that might show up on a white clay body. I'm not set up to make raku or obvara, just throwing out ideas to experiment with. :-)

While experimenting, I'd use a porcelain and red wine to the obvara...couldn't hurt.

  18. I think attaching handles is my favorite part of a mug right now. So much comes from the way the handle looks attached to different forms. It really makes or breaks the form.

  19. Anyone know a good wax resist. I have been using amaco and it gunks up so much it drives me nuts. The only way it applies good is with a sponge. Is there a really good brand anyone knows about?

Do you all think the spammers are part of "work at home" ads you see in the newspapers and magazines? I noticed a decrease in their numbers last night.:)
