ginko leaf tray done in Oribe green. recipe is not stable. proved with the vinegar test. tray sold to same person who bought the tree of life rectangular tray. new glaze on bottom tray. different recipe done with the new copper carbonate that is not like the old stuff. much weaker color. lots of re-fires with this glaze. have to get used to pouring it on thickly with my sprayer. have increased amount of copper to 5% since this piece.

"Leif" (once fired) will rest upon the top of the kiln to protect all manner of ceramic musical instruments from warping and cracking. In the potter's tradition of "kiln gods" it is only appropriate that the pensive Leif look over his horn of triumph and guard the vessel where fire will temper the clay into worldly strength and perfection.

The saggar clay figure is roughly 8" tall in the greenware stage. This was a 'feet-up-2-NCIS-episode-long" sketch problem that merged from pen and ink to hollow clay form...just because I'd never created a 'kiln god' before.

This is a close-up of the lid/stopper for the "House Wine" vessel. I like sneaking in some detail work on areas that don't show when the top is in place.

Handbuilt stoneware mugs, approximately 12oz capacity, fired cone10. Surface treatment includes 3-d dwelling, carved-out hillside community, and underglaze image transfers. The transfers are new to me...using a CriCut Explore to create silkscreen masks through which thickened underglaze is printed onto rice paper. Once dried, the surface of the mug is coated in underglaze, the transfer is sprayed until saturated, and then pressed/burnished (with pint side to the mug) onto the bisque fired surface. I'm not yet comfortable enough with this technique to try it on greenware but it should work equally well.

Certainly there is a story to these mugs...the short version centers around work in some of the poorest slums in Central/South America in contrast with visits to numerous iconic cites in Europe.

It's so funny! The poppies get a lot of attention but they are not selling either! Tomorrow I'm going to put them a bit lower down so people can see the pretty bright colors on the inside. Some are red and some are teal. These are favorites of mine and get a lot of compliments but definitely not a huge seller.

This is actually a big table with the display in the middle and space around with dishes arranged to fill it. I couldn't step far enough back to fit the whole display in!

ellen currans showed me how to add detail with a handle having the same texture as the center of the platter. it worked very well here, thank you ellen!! you can see the results of uneven spraying in the sort of wavy dark and light spots on the outer rim. too wet.

center tray is done at 5% copper carb, the others at 3 or 4. happier with the 5% but it has to be applied thickly.

to re-fire to the original cone number, here cone 6, i try to put things in the bottom which is the cool spot. you can see that there is only one row of element down there, the bottom shelf has 2 sets of posts, 2 inch for the half shelf and 41/2 for the next full shelf. i know the firing evens out at the end but somehow i just feel better knowing there is a slower rise at the bottom. this kiln load was mixed with re-fire pieces and glazed greenware throughout. nothing bad happened to anything.

Firing greenware pottery on Massacre Island in the pouring rain. One vessel is getting soaked, while the other is under the pile of sticks, fixing to be fired.

My Falling Brightly jewelry set was inspired by the colors of fall. I made all of the leaf shaped focal beads and fired them in what is becoming my signature glaze.
