  1. in Wyoming.52 degrees at 5:30 am. Unlike the tropics of Texas. Great to be in the Western landscape. We'll be in Montana by noon!

      thanks for reminding me, lol. About Texas. I need a bigger AC. The drywall I added did bring down the temp by 10 degree. When I get more moola I plane to blow some installation up there. Stay cool.

      Its in the 50's at night in Anacortes ,Wa as well as home now. I love this area of Washington state. Art show almost over and get to go diving for 3 days in Puget sound

  2. used my new tile racks fire Raku yesterday. very happy with the results as the tile racks. had them custom made.

  3. Had a great time with my old friend and new friend from the forum at Home Slice Pizza. Talked raku and went to look at Laurene's beautiful raku pots from France and her recents tests. Fun evening in Austin.

  5. firing saggars today. Will try to get raku slabs and tile glazed tomorrow.

  6. fired two days of obvara and one of saggar in the past 4 days. Hope to do Raku Wed.

  7. fired my new raku kiln today for Obvara. whew, took it slow to 1650 and then started pulling the pieces. I usually have help for the lid on and off. Fired 13 pieces tumble stacked. I am beat. Dripping in this heat. drinking lots of water.

      Monterrey, MX is 200 miles from my house in Brownsville Tx. I think it is more likely the chemicals from factories in Matamoros.

      I think what JT said is right: you have a highly acid environment. Sulfur/ salt, and God knows what else. Time to move.

  8. Obvara will be ready on Friday. May have to do a pre-dawn firing to avoid meltdown..of me!

  9. glazing espresso cups today and then preparing raku slabs for glazing. Glazing is one of my least favorite things to do.

      Guess I am the oddball: I have a very old brent whell out there I have turned on 3-4 times. Watching a wheel spin does not excite me.

  10. my big oval is really well insulated. Took over 30 hours for the bisque to cool. but the fan was running and it comes on at 120 F.

      so much nicer to fire in the winter, especially if its snowing outside & you can sit in the kiln shed with a nice cup of coffee!

      My 6.5 top loader is custom built 3" brick and 2" fiber. Anymore I just turn it off when done firing and check it two days later.

  12. Fired bisque with slabs and tiles for raku. I need to fire before going back to Montana. Hope it will get cooler. Lows overnight are still in the 80s. May be doing night raku firings.

  13. Love Montana. Didn't settle on the house in question, but we're going back together in a few weeks.

  14. leaving tomorrow at 5 am to check out a potential retirement home in Montana for my husband and me. Studio space, kiln space and mountains! My friends have me covered for p/u at airport, drive to town, stay with friends. I love Montana!

      I just did the math and Billings is almost 1300,00 miles from me about the same as Tempe AZ .Its just a long ways-I always thought about a summer art show there

      I can't say Evelyne. I notice that each porcelain has its own response to crackling surfaces. You'd have to experiment.

      Went shopping today and I felt like I was grilled. If you like grilling and being grilled approximately 8 to 10 months a years, then South Texas is the place to be. It doesn't get cold for long here.

      Yea I guess people are going on holiday. I am firing the final celadon test tonight before I mix my 10gal bucket tomorrow and get listings back up and start taking pots to local places that want my work. so much to do. did you ever get to fire or did heat beat you today?

      I have seen that video, but not the end where he takes his pots out of the kiln. I like when they are all sitting there together. Amazing work.

      I like the wide variety that came out of that kiln. It could have been staged, but it seemed like they were all shapes and sizes.
