Hailey
This white fluffy stuff is growing on the sides of my plaster slab that I use to dry out reclaim. What is it?
Hulk
I'm seeing that as well - the crystals seem to form mostly/more where the water was moving to and evaporating; my guess, dissolved stuff from the clay, the plaster (pottery plaster) or both. I've been wiping it down with a damp sponge. Hrrm, here's somewhat on the subjectFuzz On Plaster - Studio Operations and Making Work - Ceramic Arts Daily Community My slabs are almost two inches thick. Still, most of the uncovered surface area is the bottom - the top being covered in clay; I'm setting the slabs up on 1"x1" sticks, hence, there's air circulation underneath. The mass of plaster absorbs a lot of water; however, the water has to go somewhere - out the sides and the bottom whilst loaded with clay, and once unburdened, out all six sides, eh? Russ
Most common efflorescence from clay bodies is calcium sulfide aka gypsum from my experience. Harmless to you and harmless to your clay body in small amounts.
