Pres got a reaction from Rae Reich in Argh!! Giffin grip gripe, anyone else have issues?
Rick, Check out some of my earlier blog posts. There is a post that shows using a plumbing set up for trimming chalice stems. Your problem involves a little more ingenuity. First I would look for a 3" to 2" reducer, or any PVC reducer that would help you start. Double sided tape on the bottom would allow you to attach it to the GG. Then use your GG arms to hold the bottle in place. Take a walk through the plumbing section, lots of possibilities there, and I hope that looking at some of my tools will help you out. Near the Chalice trimming post is a post on a reducer used to trim lids to an exact diameter. That may help also.

GG is just one more skill/tool for use in the tool rack. Doesn't hang on a hook to well though!

I was trimming some lids today, on the GG. Came to one that needed some diameter correction to fit into the canister. As I was already using the GG, I shifted off the lid, grabbed a plastic plumbing pipe reducer, and centered it with the GG, dampened the reducer, centered the lid and trimmed the edge without the pads causing me to move when I went by them. Lid trimmed well.

I have been using a GG since they first came out years ago. I had at that time been doing all of the other options, centering on wheel head, wet thrown chucks, bisque thrown chucks, hump chucks for bowls, bowl chucks. All that said, when it came to large platters, or chalices, or really tall narrow vases, pitchers with pulled and uneven tops, or some other pieces, these options were often frustrating or inadequate. Along came the GG, and I first relearned how to trim, how to place the arms for best trimming, when to use just the pads on the bottom or use arms or use the reversed pads for large diameters. Then I started using plumbing parts to create chucks for things like chalice stems, or trimming honey jar lids or other pieces. Go back to not using the GG, NEVER! Do I still center by hand, on occasion, but compare the time for 50 mug trims by hand centering and by using a GG. The experienced GG user will beat the centering by hand easily, and the result is the same.
    IMHO

The canned stuff was GROSS! However, they tried to do what they could. Ssgt pay was not great even with family perks, and other. My daughter saw a picture when she was in HS showing 3 of the four kids with mom in front of the trailer, taken probably in 1953 or 4. Her loud and disbelieving comment was "You were TRAILER TRASH!  Oh well!

I used to hate asparagus, as when growing up in a military family, most of asparagus we had was canned! Nothing worse in the day. Love it now fresh, wife sautes it with garlic and italian herbs in light oil until just enough to soften the stalks.

My weight is down on all this. I have adopted a lower cholesterol diet in line with my diabetes diet. Between the two, it has forced me to become more vegetarian. I am actually finding that if I don't think of meat replacement as meat, but protein, I'm not bad off. The new bowls are fantastic for eggbeaters, and I am getting creative with capers, fiery mustard, worchestire sauce, or chili lime seasoning, with a little cheese and hot sauce. Oatmeal cooked in micro at level 7 does not boil over. Learning all sorts of new stuff. More riced frozen cauliflower and other veggies.

Yeah I have a box of the overnight oats, will try the cold, did not think of warming it up in the micro. I am going this way as I am diabetic, and have cholesterol over 200. Thing is Dr. determined diabetes may have been a result of of the Lipitor I was on for 15 years. So not interested in statins anymore, but I have beat the diabetes with diet and exercise, and will try the same on both fronts.
On another note, it is really nice to get into the shop with a few warmer days.

We have been playing with a bit of breakfast of late, as we usually have not cooked breakfast since retiring. My wife and I would go to a Mom and Pop, drink coffee read our books and get breakfast served. Oh well, new time of late. So we started fixing egg beaters or egg whites in the microwave, there is a company out there that makes a breakfast kit including a plastic bowl, some fixings(cheese, veggies, meats) with instructions on how to fix it. Hmmm only took one time for us to realize we can do the same so much better. This was today's breakfast for me, 1/2 cup of egg beaters=two eggs, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic, onion and green pepper, a pinch of cheese. 1 1/2 minutes in the microwave, take out  fork stir, and then 1 minute more. Perfect, really fluffy eggs. I am working on the same thing with oatmeal, but still haven't figured out the perfect bowl for boil over.

Yes, as to the two pouring spouts. At the same time though it may work to pour to one on the right then one on the left when in the middle. Who knows!

I like the generous fullness of the bowl on 6 but with the base of 2 or 7 to give it more height.  2 pouring spouts for aesthetic reasons?

Hi folks, I have been working on some prototypes for pouring chalices. I have sent this image to the customer to see if I am heading in a direction he would accept. There are a variety of shapes, with a continued them of stem and bowl. I am more in favor of the deeper narrower bowls with closer to Golden Mean proportions, but tough to do exactly. All have two pouring spouts on opposites sides. Hoping to get a reply back soon.

That's a good idea, the handles were a total after thought, I had pulled a load of mug handles and didn't want any go to waste so I plopped them on here.  I can't think of any functional use of these, was just for fun.  My wife has been using one as a bud vase.  I made a few syrup bottles similar to this but with a spout, the handles on those look a little better attached

So far, it’s a mug with a swear word on it, because 2020 seems to be inspiring certain sentiments at every possible opportunity. It’s what my therapist would have termed an adaptive (as opposed to maladaptive) self soothing method, so whatever helps!

I did manage to get my hands on 50 or so pump dispensers (they’re kinda scarce as it turns out), and I made my first 6 hand sanitizer/soap bottles. They came out of the kiln yesterday and I think they’re quite nice! My MIL has already claimed one, so we’ll see how those go. I’m playing around with some soap dish designs, trying to find one that’s easy to make AND that I like. I’ve made ones I like, but they are a bit fussy. I need to simplify them so they’re faster.

It will always be mugs -mugs and more mugs followed by tumblers and sponge holders

Yeah, I used the electric raku outside with and extension cord, always unplugged before opening kiln. Don't know as a problem, but read in one text where hot air is a conductor so I took precautions. Better safe.. . . .

The steeped in safety culture of the Steel Mill (where I worked for several years) changed my life - doesn't mean I don't make mistakes, doesn't mean I don't (stupidly/silly-ly) do dangerous things - just "see" somewhat differently.
A safety measure only has to "work" one time.
The opposite is, sadly, also true.

My personal dumbest moment was back in college while loading the outdoor soda kiln in sub zero temperatures while not turning on the gas burners to heat the inside of the kiln. The posts and the shelves were so cold (they were kept outside) they froze the wadding, and when it melted, it shifted the stack and the whole thing fell over. I was not popular for this particular move.

I guess all too often the things that cause the most concern at the moment, in retrospect, can bring the most laughter. We realize our stupidity when it happens or just after, but learn the lesson.

@Blossomhousepottery.com Thank you! I always use wax resist for etching, and do it at the dry side of leather hard.
