  2. Gas prices are crazy here, $1.57 / litre, works out to $5.97 a US gallon. Expected to go up again later in the week. Glad I don't have to drive to work!!!

Up to 158.9 overnight (regular gas). My daughter just bought a Chevy Volt electric car, expensive vehicle but she doesn't have the $80 plus fill ups anymore.

Ours has been creeping up. Got over $3 a gallon this week. Hasn't been that high in a long time.

$3 a gallon? Crazy cheap!!!! I just did a stats search, have to go back to Feb 2003 for our price/litre to be the equivalent of that.

  3. When LeeU said “one of my more masculine pieces” in another thread it had me contemplating her comment. Masculine and feminine encompass a large set of related characteristics, would be hard pressed to make a pot that didn’t have curves but that alone doesn’t make a pot feminine. Are visually heavy pots defined as masculine? At first this seems like an easy question but I’m finding it very hard to nail down what defines a pot as masculine or feminine and yet I have no problem looking at a pot and thinking it is one or the other or neither. Does our subconscious make the decision for us?
  4. In LeeU's thread Website Building and Marketing in the Business, Marketing and accounting section Lee said "guys seem to like my more "masculine" pieces..." Do you make feminine, masculine or gender neutral work and is it a conscious decision?
  5. Doing income tax, such fun. April 30 deadline.

Just got mine back from my accountant. I’m happy to let somebody else be the expert. He told me to make extra estimated payments at the end of last year, so the amounts due now are not too bad.

  6. Very clever honey dipper, nice. Have you ever made them with the end like a traditional wood honey stick with the grooves?
  7. Away for a few days, cabin up the coast, wifi can be spotty where I'm going.

  8. Thanks for posting my question Pres. hanging planters for succulents
  9. It’s always interesting to see what people are working on, a one off pot, a series, pulling handles, working out a new design, glazing, glaze testing.… just a snippet from your day of something in progress. My question would be what’s on your workbench? (pictures would be a welcome bonus!)

@Farid, just wondering if you had a comment or question about your glaze blisters in this photo? Didn't see any other posts regarding the glaze problem.
  11. Oh, that's what I couldn't think of! Knew it reminded me of something. I can totally see making these as a learning exercise for new potters but was thinking in terms of selling them. So many customers saying they are looking to downsize or at least not add to what has already filled up their cupboards that a specialized pot would be harder for me to sell. Not a drinker so I don't really get the whiskey cup, does the spiral in the middle start going round and round after a few?
  12. Looking at the design of those and couldn't help but wonder what else you could use them for. Thought it somewhat resembles a lemon reamer. If the middle bit was a titch wider at the base you could carve sharp channels into the center part and if one of the scallops on the rim was sharpened a bit it could be the pour spout. I like having more than one use for pots, it's got me thinking....
  13. I enjoy trying to answer the questions posed in PQotW and I’m both impressed and covetous of the sheer volume of books Pres has. (no pun intended) Started me thinking about my own meagre collection and which one I find the most useful or enjoyable. So, my question would be, if you could only have one ceramics book what would it be and why? (plus, I’m curious what Pres would choose)
  14. Happy Birthday O.Lady!!!! Wishing you many happy returns!

Market was okay but not brilliant. Think customers had more sense than I did and stayed indoors with the ac on. We don't usually get this hot so not acclimatized to it at all, especially in June.

  20. Have had this in the back of my mind for a few days, came up with something that makes me shake my head and smile. My parents. Have had comments from them ranging from “people actually buy these?†to a remark on a speckled glaze, “oh, it looks like it has fleasâ€. Doesn’t stop there, at a market my dad came into my tent (while customers there) and said “has it been this slow all day?†Not to be outdone my mum once said, “if we pay your tuition how about going into accountingâ€. My husband and children have always been super supportive. So, question would be, what’s your family like? (if you don't have one, want to borrow my parents?)
