Joe_L reacted to SydneyGee for a gallery image, Tenmoku and blue chun bowls in b-mix ^6 reduction
My set of matching b-mix tenmoku and blue chun bowls. Really light, will be great for condiments or rice bowls (the big one will be for my rice, lol).

Joe_L reacted to Celia UK for a gallery image, Cut bowls with texture slabs
Thrown bowls, cut at right angles to the rim. Thin slabs textured with bark, stamps, shells etc. - pieces attached to back part with front cut edge eased forwards to emphasise the contrast between the organic and engineered. Oxide washes applied at dry greenware stage, fixed in the bisqued firing. 3 back pieces were dipped in transparent glaze, front one dipped in tin white (to cover a repair that fired a different colour!). Fired to 1100oC in electric kiln.

Joe_L reacted to GiselleNo5 for a gallery image, Custom Wedding Pie Plate, interior with date and initials
Pie plate slip cast in white stoneware from Laguna. I painted three coats of Moroccan Sand slip on the inside and bottom of the plate. I carved an intricate design of leaves and vines around the bride and groom's initials and wedding date to show the white clay underneath the taupe clay. This was glazed in clear.

color added by respraying too light original. it is hard to judge how much is too little when spraying. especially bisque! this was refired on the bottom shelf with several other things that were too pale.

Joe_L reacted to ChenowethArts for a gallery image, Commissioned 'Piano' Bowl
This is a large, 3.5+ quart, mixing bowl that is part of a commission project for a retiring university dean. You might guess that the dean had something to do with the music program...and that would be correct. The bowl stands 7" tall and is a full 12" wide at the rim. The black keys were added individually to the wheel thrown piece and later brushed with Amaco Velvet underglaze. The exterior is glazed with Woo's Blue. The interior is Pete's Cranberry. A final light coat of clear was sprayed over the underglazes section for additional sheen. This is a Cone 10 reduction piece.

Made for a friend to go with the fabric of a chair. White earthenware. Used paper triangles as resist then various underglazes before the bisque firing. Transparent glaze.

Love doing this Adam Field style carving - very therapeutic! Have designed similar patterns of my own for future pieces.
