It's been daubed now. Nothing like other people wanting to see your unfinished work to release the creative juices!

  2. That moment when you visit someone's house you haven't been to for a long time and pick up a jug off the shelf to see where it came from and discover it's got your initials on...

Sometimes I have no memory of having made that kind of work ... funny to me but not them ... I look through old slides ( I did say old ) and love to be surprised by what I used to make. Maybe I will add a page to my site if I can figure out how to transfer the slides with my printer.

You used to be able to send slides off for processing, dunno if you still can. Or get one of those little scanners but I've never found the quality good enough. Slides have such high contrast it doesn't come out well.

      Nice bit of satisfaction.

  3. Circumstances have kept me away from clay for the last 2 months.I feel my creativity will take a while to return. Fixed by craving with a family holiday in France and found some excellent ceramics in Burgandy, and a nice bowl now sitting on my dining table. Hope to get back to the wheel soon...

And even better, this weekend is PotFest. Always a great day out. http://www.potfest.co.uk/in-the-park/

  4. I donated some pots to a raffle and there were several murmurs of excitement from friends. One even came up and bought a bowl that was't in the raffle - my first ever actual sale.

Bravo. In the States it is customary to frame the first dollar from your first sale.

  5. My wife saw a the table covered with bowls, each with a little slice of lemon all wrapped up in cling film and realised yes he's lost it...

Why do you use a table saw to slice lemons?

Oops, I read table but saw table saw!!

  6. My library is looking better stocked, now proud owner of John Britt's High Fire Glazes and Robin Hopper's Functional Pottery.

You are in the UK: you do not have elves, but I heard there are plenty of leprechauns running around.

I think they're Irish. Maybe I'll just try a batch of bigger pots.

I have gotten bowls down, cylinders are another matter. Old dogs can learn new tricks.

  12. Tool of the day: the back of my spoon.

I buy bamboo kitchen tools, cut off the handles and make ribs of them. Spoon rib is great for bowls.

  13. Came back from holiday in Cornwall with 50kg of Doble's DSS to play with.

Tricky! Iron-rich stoneware, apparently a good thrower.

TY- got it now. Pictures when you turn it from mud to rock.

  14. Second single firing! Not bad, not bad at all - apart from some warpy bowls but hey it's only throwing technique.

Not bad is so much better than terrible :D

  15. My first ever single firing is in the kiln. Hunting round the house for displacement activities to keep me from wondering just exactly what is going to happen.

  16. More test tiles. And yet more test tiles...

Ive been testing for a year, still haven't found glazes that I love enough.

Are you making your own? I can imagine that's a whole new ballgame I can see myself getting into one day but for the moment I'm using commercial glazes.

    3. Joseph Fireborn

      Joseph Fireborn

I used to use commercial. There are a lot of beautiful ones, but the price was just too steep for me. So yea I make my own now, although I have probably spent too much on testing anyways. Tin oxide isn't cheap.
