Bam2015
My satin glaze is not playing nice with Amaco black or Coyote black underglazes, or maybe it's the other way around. Does anyone know what the problem could be? The recipe from Glazy.org Ferro Frit 3124 36 Wollastonite 27 EPK 35 Silica 5 The person who contributed this recipe states that it adds up to 103. Jarman Porcelain
Do you have photos or a detailed description of what is happening? There isn't enough information here to help you.
Bam2015
I don't have a picture, but they are pinholes. Sorry, should have mentioned that. It's actually a sort of cool look. Are pots with pinholes food safe? Thanks, Betty
Min
Are you bisque firing the underglaze on before glazing?
Bam2015
Min, I am applying the underglaze in the greenware stage then bisque firing to 04, glaze fire to 6. I have an L & L kiln and use their programs for slow bisque and slow glaze. Betty Roberta12
Roberta12
@Bam2015One technique that has helped me is to lightly rub a finger over the underglazed areas, after you have brushed/dipped/sprayed your satin or glossy glaze. I think it is to smooth it out and make sure the glaze covers the ug. Rae Reich
Rae Reich
You might try slightly dampening the black areas of the bisque before applying the glaze. Blot with a sponge for small areas or a quick dip in water.
