Glaze inconsistency

Hi,

I made my first glaze yesterday, I’m very happy with the colour on the inside of the pot, but the colour on the outside is completely different despite the glaze coming from the same bucket. Does anyone have any ideas what may have happened?

Nice Emma! There are some real glaze wizards here, someone may pinpoint exactly why it happened. I have some glazes that get that gorgeous blue clouding, in my case it’s very dependent on the thickness of application. If too thin, no blue develops. It could be helpful if you posted the recipe too.

Have you fired any test tiles?  If the above is relevant I would have expected them to come out something like the outside of your mug.

Thanks Kelly, that would make sense - I glazed the inside first by pouring glaze in and swirling it around and then dipped the outside so it’s probably thicker on the inside.

That glazing method would do it, aside from the difference often noticed between inside and outside of pots because of othrr reasons.

Try dipping mug into glaze and holding the desired time and comparing that to your first result.

Not enough glaze? Do the inside, wait o'night then do exterior..
