Lee b
My Cress kiln sitter fires too fast for my hand built work. So, I know how to candle, but how do I control the temp? If it goes above 200 my work blows, so? How do you know if the mechanical water has evaporated out, and you can proceed?
Mark C.
Open the lid -turn on as low as ot will go. (I cannot recall if cress has seperate control of elements?) Only turn on the bottom elements if you can. Leave on low and control heat with lid The other way is dry your work with heat in studio more.(may be easier)

Hulk
I'm running up to about 200F the night afore firing; next morning, it's still over 125F, even though the kiln fan has been running - an all is very dry by then. If your ware is very thick, a night of low heat might not be sufficient. If you try it, be careful not to exceed 212F -> boom!
neilestrick
Be careful with propping the lid open. Use a piece of kiln brick if you have one. If you use a shelf post, you'll wear a spot on the wall brick and/or lid. Overnight should dry things out just fine, unless they are very wet when you put them in.
