Cdubee
I am going to do some hand building at home. I will apply underglaze to greenware then search for somewhere to fire it. How do I dispose of the water where I clean brushes and sponges after applying the underglazes?
liambesaw
Dump it outdoors or dry it out and throw it away
Hulk
I'm pouring off the clear part of glaze day washing water (underglazes and glazes), keeping the sludgy accumulation, which can be screened, adjusted for specific gravity and thixotropy, then re-used. It does take a while to settle out - no hurry, have several buckets around. Within a few days of completing a glazing session, it's all down to one bucket again - then a week or so later the rest of the clear can be poured off. My sludge comes out bluish brown, somewhat glossy, will use if for something...
Denice
I also let the glaze settle and pour off the clear water I put the glaze in a large jar and let it dry out. When the jar is full of dry clay residue I take it to our hazardous waste facility. I live near a creek and worry about something like lithium or barium getting into the water. Callie Beller Diesel
I put my floor moppings and glaze sludge into a large bucket and let it settle out. I let it dry and bag it up and take it to the fire station that collects old paint and the like.
