  3. With about 90 minutes left in a glaze firing we had a neighborhood power failure that lasted 2 1/2 hours. I just restarted the kiln and crossing my fingers.

Everything came out ok except for one reglazed piece that had a lot of pinholes. Whew.

  5. A fireplace makes a pretty comfortable place to brush underglaze details...particularly when it is chilly in the studio :)

  6. May I have your prayers and good vibes one more time, my friends? Tomorrow Friday, very early in the morning, I'll have my second hand surgery (left hand). I hope everything goes as well as the right hand did. Thank you all!

  7. 260 pots glazes today, firing an untested glaze on all of them. Flying by the seat of my pants.

  8. First time on the wheel for 5 1/2 months. Collarbone held up well. Shame about throwing skills (or lack of).

  9. been in bed with a flu since I got back.

  11. My house/studio was burned to the ground in the Valley Fire that started very close to my home. Our street was the first to go and my area is totally destroyed. 75% of the homes in my little town are gone. I had over 300 pots ready for fairs and of course, all the pottery we use daily. I’m devastated. I’m hoping I’ll be able to recover some pots that didn’t break/melt, and maybe my kilns? Wheel? The evacuation order hasn’t been lifted yet. With the shards I’ll make a big mosaic wall when we...

I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news. I hope you are able to keep a positive outlook. I survived hurricane Sandy 3 years ago and I can understand what you're going through. Even though its devastating right now, you're ok and it's only stuff that was lost.

  12. FINALLY posted my three gallery-bound pieces for the charity event! I'd really like some feedback, pleeez. :3 (Sorry about the sucky photos, hnngh...)

  13. I am now an official member of Potters' Council and I put up my artist portfolio. Next Saturday is the opening of a show I'm in (with 7 other potter/sculptors) at a gallery on the Mendocino Coast. And I just added listings to my etsy page. I'm finally feeling like an integrated part of the greater pottery world instead of going it by my lonesome.

  14. Yay, I went to my first craft market today. My wife and I had a great time. There was only about 15 vendors, but I was the only potter. I sold almost everything and even got some commissions. I want to thank you all, for your kindness, acceptance and support. Along with all your great advice I was able to feel confident that I could do this. It wasn't about the money, but it was ok, but just knowing that I have friendships that care about me, makes me a millionair. I couldn't have don...

  15. Red letter day yesterday. 25 days from having my knee replaced I was able to go into the studio and throw for a few hours. I'm becoming human again!

  16. This evening is my very first show ever. I'm excited and also slightly terrified! My kiln load yesterday came out beautiful with lots of new designs to sell and my dad helped me build display shelves last weekend. Babysitter is coming soon and after that it's a mad scramble!

  17. I just contracted an electrician who will draw a 220 line out to my garage. Work will be done this week and then I'm ordering a kiln. Yay!

  21. Surgery Tuesday to replace my entire right knee. Rehab began yesterday. It looks hopefully be released today. Will work the old flywheel kickwheel into rehab routine when I can. Oh the drugs are so good. Sings "what a drag it is getting old" ( showing my age too)

  22. I've been largely offline due to two surgeries and recovery time I think the whole world should know that it took me the equivalent of over 3 days to cull through -- judiciously picking and choosing only some things to check on -- CAD forums, Facebook, and LinkedIn! I empathize w/Evelyn..my studio is essentially shut down for now-just can't do it yet.

Just worry about healing and recuperating and taking care of yourself. The pottery will still be there when you are able to give it attention.

I give inline skating lessons in public areas like Central Park, NYC and people on skates come over to me and ask if they can join my group or my private lesson. After explaining that all people have paid and you may also many say nevermind but is it ok if I watch? It's a public place so I can't stop them. After awhile some will inch their way into the group or will ask me questions from behind me if they are doing it right. I just gotta laugh and I hand them my card and tell them...
