    Pumpkins

From the album: Ceramic Jack O Lantern

Tried my hand at some clay pumpkins, which I carved into Jack-O-Lanterns.
  2. Made a couple of ceramic Jack-O-Lanterns for the front porch. I love pumpkins as decoration, but I like carving them less and less each year. This will solve that problem.

Oh. My. PUMPKIN!! ^_^ That's a great idea! I think you just saved my hands. I was so disappointed about not being able to carve a pumpkin this year...great idea!!

  3. Homecoming Week at school, which means dress up days for students and staff. I did a wheel throwing demo today dressed as Mr. moneybags from Monopoly.

I believe you've one-upped Mr Leach throwing in his 3 piece suit. I haven't seen images of anyone throwing in a top hat í ½í¸

Had the top hat, mustache, bowtie, the whole works. I did take the jacket off though.

      Sorry, no photos were taken.

Raising My Kiln, From the Dead

this kiln was given to me, years ago. Finally want to get it up and running.
  5. A heads up, to those up North. There are several kilns and wheels up for bid on Govdeals. Also, for anyone in Arizona, there is a front load Paragon kiln.

The one in AZ looks good. There is a 40 cf alpine in UT also looks great

Yeah, that Alpine is out of my wheel house... And price range.

    Interior

From the album: Raising My Kiln, From the Dead

Ignore the large chunks of kiln brick. Those must be bits that were used as a lid prop, or something of the like, because the walls aren't too bad.

    Plug

From the album: Raising My Kiln, From the Dead

My Dad refers to it as "The Plunger". A pretty apt description.
  8. From the album: Raising My Kiln, From the Dead

Two switches and a kiln sitter. No timer. Notice the gap between the top and middle ring. They don't quite line up, when the rings are stacked.
  9. The rims are definitely thinned. The two bowls, aren't too bad, in terms of thickness, but the mugs... Babs, I still do like the glaze. It's one thing, that I can't do now, since I don't have access to a reduction kiln. I love the smokey, neutral effects it provides. I should note, I posted these in response to the "Do you still have the first thing you ever made" topic. So, these are from college, well over fifteen years ago.

    First Set

My first wheel made items, from college.
  11. From the album: First Set

Man these are thiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. But as my instructor commented, "Well, that's insulated!"
  12. Ummm, did anyone lose some posts? I made a couple comments last night and this morning, and they no longer exist. Unless I'm imagining it all. Is this something to do with the update that was mentioned a while back?

Thought I was going crazy there for a minute. I was wondering if I said something the administrators didn't like.

I thought it had something to do with my short term memory problem...but realized it was just something to do with my short term memory problem :)

LOL I thought the same thing as Denise so I reworded my post about insurance ... I thought someone saw it as a sales push for Progressive insurance (you can NOT sell insurance across state lines unless you are licensed in that state)

  13. A mug a made five years ago, for my brother broke a couple months ago on the handle. I saw it in person this past weekend. It was not at the attachment point, so not sure what happened.

Also, I still really like the glaze combination I used, but it's a little "heavy" and the foot ring too sharp. Live and learn...

I need to mop. My cat is shedding.

You make it sound like cats ever stop shedding. Our's gets blocked out of my work shop, when I have a bunch of things going. She is too nosey, sheds everywhere, and steals my sponges.

  15. A freight train derailed nearby, no major damages. But they spilled some sodium bicarbonate and soda ash. I wonder if they need help cleaning it up?...

Standing 3feet away from a burning RR tankard for 13 hrs cured me to want to see another!!

      Yikes, Alabama! That's gnarly!

  16. I'm watching a Skutt kiln on the Govdeal website. It looks in fantastic shape, and is dirt cheap at the moment. Anyone used the site before? I'm just wondering how much it will jump the last day?

    3. Benzine

      Benzine

Well, it's jumped nearly $100 in a day. We'll see what the final hours bring...

    4. Benzine

      Benzine

No go. I tried bidding towards the end, but it kept jumping. Someone got a nice couple thousand dollar kiln for under four hundred.

I'll just have to keep watching. I've seen others come up, in the same area before. The rich school districts seem to dump good kilns, for new fairly often.

  17. Hmmmm... Just realized I haven't updated this in a while. Not much really to update. It's unnecessarily cold and snowy here.

The kind that drives aeay that sickening 110F poop weather we get in the summer here! Yuuuuck! I likes it in the 50s and sunny. Perrrrrfect! ♥

  18. I made some suggestions in the original thread. Some type of theme, like "Nature" or "Technology". Or since it's the first contest, we could do a "My Style" or "Self-Portrait". It would just be making something that describes you, not an actual depiction of yourself... unless of course that is your style.
