PaulaAlter
Happy New Year! We will be relocating my small 3.29 cu. ft. Olympic kiln from one end of town to the other this weekend. My husband has a big crew cab truck so it will be protected on the trip. What precautions do we need to take (other than not dropping it) to assure it will stay in good condition with the move? Also, once it's set back up again in its new kiln room home, will it be ready to fire or is there any test that I should run with it? I'll have a bisque load to run after its move. Thanks so much for any and all feedback!
Marcia Selsor
It should not be difficult. just be gentle. Strap it down and avoid bumps. Marcia
neilestrick
For moving, set it on a sheet of construction foam, the blue or pink stuff you can get at the home center. If the bottom slab is separate, set it on top of the kiln. Just set it up and fire it. Shim the feet of the stand as needed to make sure the kiln does not rock. Mark C.
I think the state dept. also has a relocation service as well. They issue the kiln new brand name tag and owners manual and change the original plug to new design so it cannot be traced back to the original location. They can also make the move in an unmarked black van.
Mark C.
One last thing to consider is a new name since the old ones will be erased.

Mark C.
Just as I thought we have not heard back from OP in a week. My guess is they are in a government kiln relocation program now and we will never hear for them again

PaulaAlter
Thanks for the feedback! The kiln made it's move in an unmarked big red truck and accompanied by four Secret Service personnel disguised as family and neighbors. It is enjoying its incognito existence in a concrete walled room and awaiting its next assignment.
