dricherson
Hi! I have somehow accumulated lots of old lovely glass globes, like those that cover ceiling or porch lights. Anyone have any ideas how to attach them to my thrown pottery base to make table lamps out of them? Two problems - 1. How to construct the base so globes would come off to change bulbs 2. How to permanently attach the socket to the base. Just wondered if anyone has done this or has any tips. Thank you!
oldlady
just include a groove in the top of the base. the trick is shrinkage, getting that circle to be the right size after firing.
Fred Sweet
As Oldlady alluded to, place the opening down toward the base. There will be almost no heat buildup in the globe with the new LCD or CFL bulbs. Socket can be mounted downward from the flange that will hold the globe. Just have to do the math to accommodate your clay's shrinkage.
Pres
Another option to this if you are good with your math like Fred suggests, is to throw a thick rim, split it with a wooden rib into two rims with a galley in between to set the rim of the glass globe into. best, Pres
Mark C.
If you want to glue glass to ceramics use e-6000 glue. Mark
