BlackandWhitedogpottery
Does anyone have any suggestions for making glazes in warm grey or beige in cone 6?
Joseph Fireborn
The standard practice that most recommend is take your favorite white and add small %'s of mason 6600 stain to it and test. I have tried this and it works pretty well.
oldlady
one of my favorites lately is Mike's clear with 6527, Shadow Grey mason stain. when i add 2% copper, i get a really nice sortofkindof celadon. the best part is that the recipe is simple and lots of other colors come out well with the base clear. Babs
Old Lady, what is the recipe for Mike's clear?
oldlady
babs, my notes say it is a high boron glaze so if you understand that you will know which colors work well with it. (and not waste time like i did trying things that just would not work) MIKE'S CLEAR cone 6 gerstley borate 60 ball clay 20 silica/flint 20 that is it. i use a white ball clay just because i have it. do not know if you can get gerstley borate, know lots of substitutes have been used over the years but my supply of gerstley is still going strong. hope it works on your clay and you have a good result. Marcia Selsor
Nickel gives a good warm grey in reduction. You might try some tests with this recipe for oxidation.
