ChaChasky
I have a chance to purchase for 100. an older model but brand new Nova 18 LT 4k never used. The heating elements are built into the walls of the kiln.. I know very little about kilns; I do mostly clay sculpture, and wanted to be able to do my own firing, only concerned about the plug, if some rewiring might be required, and the age.Our home and shop are only 10 yrs old, can I assume that 230 vac and 45amps are ok? High Bridge Pottery
Strangest kiln I have ever seen. Why do that with the elements? I don't think you can ever replace them. After doing a little search I came across this thread about the same kiln http://community.ceramicartsdaily.org/topic/3986-my-weird-kiln-wont-reach-temp/ Looks like it may work till the elements go, then you have a broken kiln. If it is new, depending how you are firing and the quality of the electrics it could possibly last a while but being made in the 80's I have no real idea. Denice
You will need the proper breakers, wiring and outlet for it, you can always change the plug to match your 220 outlet if you already have one. You also need to find out what temperature this kiln fires too. If you can get it up and running you can easily get $100 worth of use out of it and don't worry about repairing it in the future. Consider it a consumable item like a microwave. Denice
Joseph Fireborn
I am off to paint the metal on my kiln to orange and brown flowers now. That is just epic. What is that madness? I also like that manual entry. Classic 80s.
Denice
I have never seen a painted kiln before those are the colors I had my wallpaper store painted in 1981. What a hoot. Denice
ChaChasky
Update on this classic 80's brown and orange flowered kiln.. well I was skeptical and passed on it, told him I would think about it overnight and someone scooped it up next morning for 100.... I felt dumb for not getting it.. hey at 100. I should have jumped on it.. well now I am able to set up a home studio and I go on craigslist to see what's out there..lo and behold! There is the same kiln for 595.00! Stupid me! Oh well live and learn.. thanks for the responses!
PRankin
I saw that Nova kiln on eBay weeks ago and was considering it but there wasn't enough information about it, even to take a $100 chance. Don't worry, Chasky, it wasn't meant to be and there will be others so have patience. Paul
Stephen
I know its often hard to separate but really after a short period of time passes the fact that you spent $100 or $600 becomes a non issue but the kiln will be with you for a very long time. I would first decide exactly what you want in a kiln and then try and find a bargain in that kiln.
