juliamary
Hi everyone, My kiln controller is broken and I can't see anything in the display. But I went ahead and fired it anyway after I guessed the temperature etc, crazy I know!! Well the result was bubbles in my glaze. I was trying for 1260 cone 8 but I'm thinking it was programmed too high or maybe the ramps were too quick. Any help appreciated as I need to fire again soon. Yes I'm looking into getting fixed but it's a very busy time of year for me . I can't seem to post the photo, sorry. Thanks in advance, Julia
Min
Hi Juliamary and welcome to the forum! Do you have spyholes/ peepholes in the side of your kiln to see witness cones with? If not, if I was in your place, and I recently have been, I would take the time to get the controller sorted out or replaced if necessary. It's a bit like driving a car with the windscreen covered up otherwise. Roberta12
Piedmont Pottery
At a minimum I would get a thermocouple and pyrometer so you can get an idea of the temperature as you’re firing. Cones on one or more shelves will tell you what really happened during the firing in terms of heat work.
Babs
Have you kept a log ? Even of last firing befors controller screen was broken? Length of firing etc? Are you a aware of còlour change in kiln at various temps? No to these questions and you really are in the dark. Any chance of firing in a friends kiln till controller sorted?
