graybeard
Hi guys My little test kiln tends to fire a little low, the fire cone just starts to be bend. (I'm not able to load a pic but its less then 1/4 the way down) Is there any way to estimate how much of a hold needs to be added at the end of the program to compensate for this? (or is just a crap shoot) Stay safe Graybeard Edited March 23, 2023 by graybeard Clarity
Bill Kielb
It depends on the load. So cone 5 with a fifteen or 20 minute hold is a common one to get cone 6. If your cone is 1/4 the way down, closer than you probably think. I would start with 5 minutes and work from there. Once you reach 3 o’clock it’s not far off. High Bridge Pottery
When my cones have been at the 1 o'clock position or 'just starting' I find a 15-20 minute hold will do the job.
PeterH
In an earlier thread @neilestrick gave holds he'd used for cone 6 to 8 and cone 4 to 6. Rae Reich
