Crooked Lawyer Potter
Guidance please. The picture below is of a honey pot glazed with a dark red glaze on light colored B Mix clay. I find the rim distractingly white and would prefer it to be a darker color so as to contrast less with the body. But of course it is the rim where the lid fits so it can not be glazed. How can I color it with something that wont melt and stick to the lid? Will a pure oxide wash be OK? An underglaze?

Piedmont Pottery
Why not glaze the rim and fire the lid separately? Chilly and Rae Reich
Babs
You could glaze a fair amount of that rim. Put bisqued lid in place. Run a pencil around to mark where it sits on rim and wax only the area required. Your glaze looks stable enough to do that. oldlady
when you make another one, you might want to tighten up the hole for the stick. you may never have found a wasp under the top of one of these jars. Rae Reich and Chilly
kswan
An iron oxide wash will work, I've done that before. If it's too thick it might sinter a little bit.
