oldlady
mason stains have nothing to do with your question. slip is simply clay and water. you are slightly thickening the clay body with added slip so it should be applied to clay that has not been fired at all. yes, greenware. mason stain just adds a color to the slip. if you are only after soft color, you can try a wash of mason stain in water on bisque. Babs
Apply when clay is at trimming dryness. Moisten all surfaces with a spray of water. Your slip would worm better if deflocculated esp if diffetent body from your piece. Make uour slip. Add a couple of drops of deflocc . Sodium silixate or Darvan. This will make it runny ,add more clay till thickens to brushable consistency. Stir well between brushfuls Otherwise your slip may crack off as dries or on bisquing. neilestrick
Slip is clay, so it follows the same rules for joining clay- it must be done leather hard or wetter.
