  1. Can you apply an underglaze transfers to bisque ware that has an a layer of airbrushed underglaze as a base coat?
  2. Thank you for the response . I went for the underglaze ,see how it comes out. If it works I will post a pic, if it doesn't I'll just describe the disaster.
  3. Does anyone have advice on underglaze on dark clay bodies before the bisque firing?? I am using KM Brown Bear and I want the glazes to pop more. I have read that you can apply white slip or white underglaze before the piece is bisque fired. Are there any potential issues with this? I am worried that the final glazing will peel/ react or just look like trash .. And as usual , I want to try something new when time is of the essence as the piece is a gift .

  5. I recently just did my first glaze firing in my Duncan ES820-2 and it took quite longer than it should. I was constantly monitoring the temp and think I over adjusted (firing took 11 hrs.) . In a perfect world should the top and bottom be set to the same settings at all times? I adjusted them according to the pyrometer (which was in the top peep hole). Once I set it to HI-FIRE it shut off in about 45 mins. The firing came out pretty well, so I don't think I botched it to badly. All of the pieces survived and the glaze looks ok. The top witness cones did not melt as fully as the bottom shelf. Would you suggest using a cone higher bar in the kiln sitter? I have read it's done because it's so close to the brick and the desired cone isn't actually reached long enough . I am going to follow your kiln setting on my next bisque firing as well. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  6. Thank you , That was my issue. What type of pyrometer can I use with this kiln? I would like to monitor the temp,so I can properly ramp the kiln up. Thanks
  7. I have a Duncan es820-2 kiln, I am new to ceramics and tried my first firing over the weekend. I had bisque ware I set the safety timer to 8 hours and set the firing switches to High. I put a pyrometric bar 05 in the kiln sitter . The kiln shut off after 3 hours , the bar did melt , but the cones that I set on the top shelve (04*05*06) also melted strangely. The 05 bent over correctly but the 06 bent completely over?? So. I tried again the next day, only I set the switches to medium low and timer for 8 hrs. Again the kiln shut off after three hours. I haven't opened it yet but I am not hopeful . Any suggestions ? What am I doing wrong?? Besides Paragon does anyone else sell replacement parts for these kilns. Thanks
