This is a finished one of the oil bottles I posted a greenware photo of a few pages back, flashing slips, cone 10 soda.

Nice work!
I never post anything here so here is a sampling of the weekend reduction firing. There are many talented artists at the studio (Clayspace ceramic arts center) that now excel at getting their favorite reduction, Carbon trapping, even ice crackle!
cool stuff and a fun mask almost sans eyeballs. Great group firings, time after time in an old Alpine updraft with some fancy digital stuff hooked to it.

Was kind of busy last week with trying to bisque a lot of the stuff taking up space, I got a lot cleared out, some winners some losers. Here are some of the winners, a new glaze combo I really like. I call it rotten melon

Well I only finished 15 bowls, but I got distracted. A co-workers wife wanted to know if I could make a strawberry planter so I am giving it a shot. I think I should have used more clay, I used 15lbs but it seems small to me, I'm gonna be throwing the bowls for the side tonight and attaching them and see how it goes. Might be able to get some of that Microsoft money I've heard so much about around here! Hah
I will say, I wouldn't have been able to do this on my old wheel, I had to stand up to pull on this one, it was 2 feet tall at one point! Loving my new wheel

Annotating pictures? Making videos? You are getting to be quite proficient with this digital stuff!

My goodness it's so easy, lift up the wheelhead and pick up the pan like a bucket and dump straight into the reclaim. Before I had to haul a bucket over and scoop everything out one handful at a time.
Now I'm self conscious about my splash pan hygiene haha, I thought everyone's looked that bad after a session!

Welp, I've been on the lookout for a decent deal on a wheel and I found a brand new Skutt prodigy for 650. Couldn't pass it up. Got it set up tonight and wow what a difference. Anyway, threw another 9 bowls, I think I've got it now! I think I'll have enough for a kiln load by the weekend haha.

Under these is strontium crystal magic, just want to see what they'll do on a vase, I already know what they do on their own and with each other, the SCM is the only unknown here. I'm firing it on a waster so it should be a lot of fun, muahahahah. Made this picture so I can remember what went where on the dang pot since it's a harlequin of sorts now with overlapping colors.

Did a glaze firing over the weekend, here's some of the doggie bowls and a few of the more interesting mugs. Loving my new digital controller.

Pretty good with that left hand, for a bit there I thought you were going to throw left handed but rotating counter clockwise! I am ok with mine and stumped one of our RA’s recently when he switched my wheel direction while I was away and then went cross eyed when I came back and just finished shaping without swapping the direction back. He just walked away shaking his head.
nice video

Yeah I go back and forth, bad habits! Sometimes for those first pulls with the super hard clay I have to use my right hand inside to pull it up off the bottom. I'm a bit sad, I am out of my hard reclaim now, gotta go pour out some more on to the ole plaster slabs.

I really like the shape it’s pretty 1/3 - 2/3 proportion pleasing in my view. I usually end up with too high of a shoulder and when I step back ....... blech! What did I just throw?

Bill Kielb reacted to liambesaw in QotW:At what point in a potter's career does he/she stop searching for and testing new glazes?
How could you ever stop looking for new glazes!?! One of the main things I love about pottery in general is that there is always something to do. It's throwing, it's trimming, it's decorating and glazing and firing and maintenance and the list goes on forever! What a joy it all is, and testing new glazes is a huge addition to that joy! I wish I could do it more often, I have so many great ideas and they only rarely get a chance to be tested!
I feel like when I test out new glazes everything looks great and I wasted time doing a small batch on tiles. So the next time I test a new glaze I skip it and just make a few gallons, only to have it look like dookie and ruin 10 mugs. Oh well, some lessons are never learned, just oscillate back and forth from failure to success.

Well the retrofit kit from euclids was 750+shipping. I got the parts for:
V6cf controller - 280
Relays - 2x 22
Transformer - 22
Housing - 55
Wires and connectors maybe 20 bucks
So saved around 300-350, took me about 3 hours to remove kiln sitter, rewire and put back together. I was genuinely surprised when I flipped the cutoff switch and the dang thing beeped and turned on. Was expecting fireworks at the very least!
Was a fun project and highly recommend to anyone with a manual kiln.

Works a charm, test fired it to cone 06 last night, even forgot it was running!
My main problem with the manual kiln was medium maxed out at 1800, high climbed way too fast. So to slowly climb the last 200 or so degrees, I had to go out and turn one switch to medium and one to high, and every ten minutes or so flip them to keep the kiln somewhat even.
Pain. In. The. Booty.
No more! Everything is gravy now.

Well my project yesterday was converting my manual kiln with kilnsitter into a digital kiln.
Mission complete.

I love it! Glad the PJs have gone elsewhere! I have always had Shepherds ( clumsy bowl tippers) so I found it necessary to throw a quick ribbon for double wall and add it to the shape.
This looks great!
