Threw porcelain for the first time ever. > It was not cooperative. I have been doing so well, yet I scraped off several flops. Finally I went back to B-Mix and my confidence was so shaken that I kept having flops with that too. Grump grump grump.

Glaze firing with my dad this weekend. We'll open tomorrow morning since we used his big kiln. First time ever that I've slept the night we were glaze firing, I feel pretty confident.

My house/studio was burned to the ground in the Valley Fire that started very close to my home. Our street was the first to go and my area is totally destroyed. 75% of the homes in my little town are gone. I had over 300 pots ready for fairs and of course, all the pottery we use daily. I’m devastated. I’m hoping I’ll be able to recover some pots that didn’t break/melt, and maybe my kilns? Wheel? The evacuation order hasn’t been lifted yet. Fianlly figured out the problem with my little test kiln. It was kicking the circuit breaker when I turned on the upper element. First I thought it was the circuit breaker, so I changed that. Next time I turned on the upper lelment, shower of sparks. Eventually I traced the problem to the clamping device that connects the element to the switch wire. I'd replaced the original with a replacement from Euclid. Unfortunately the new clamp was an inline clamp rather than the crosswise cla...

I have never been so grateful to fire my kiln in my life. Fred is really my lifeline, and having power is such a blessing! I'll have pics the day after tomorrow.

Success! My first glaze firing in my own kiln came out perfect. Yay!
