recently I have moved away from glazes and work with alternative firing surfaces. They are not functional but it engages me to explore this potential. Previously like 30 years ago. I enjoyed the leather hard stage of carving.

Joseph, the problem might be that you are forcing yourself to commit to something, which is making the idea unpleasant. If you're not ready to commit, then you're not ready. Nothing wrong with that. You are an explorer. That's a good thing. Embrace it!

@Marcia, I love the alternate firings, I would love to try all that eventually.

@Mea I think I will always be an explorer type. I do think that stopping the glaze exploration and working on forms could be exploring enough and would probably help me grow a good bit. So I am going to try it.
