  1. Thinking about starting to stockpile for a studio show in six months.

Depends. Didn't you do this studio tour last year? Start your inventory planning by looking at last year's sales. Be optimistic and expect better this year. Try to have twice as much work as you are expecting to sell.

  2. I am reading a book on clay body formulation from 1959: and the information is relatively the same as in 2017. Why does this bother me?

You know what I got a gift a couple years ago? A ceramic knife. Now it's my favorite kitchen knife, lightweight and super sharp, never needs sharpening. I'd call that an advancement for ceramics. Not applicable to pottery making, but the ceramic engineers are busy.

No, I'm not just talking about aesthetics. I'm talking about materials and processes too. It boils down to dirt and fire.

One of the things I love about ceramics is the idea that I'm doing largely the same things that potters did 800 years ago.

  5. I donated some pots to a raffle and there were several murmurs of excitement from friends. One even came up and bought a bowl that was't in the raffle - my first ever actual sale.

  6. Dang!! Thanks to everyone helping me get this done...especially Ron and the magic of the url! I now have an avatar I can live with.

  7. Oh the joy of buying 15'' shelves, then getting home and they dont fit cause they are 15.5 inches and you have an L&L Kiln with element holders. DUN DUN DUN....

The last time I bought shelves, I got Core-Lites. They were listed as 20" but in reality they are 19.5". They work great with my L&L kiln, and are delightfully lightweight!

  8. SPRING WHERE YOU GO!? Just when I start enjoying spring and have my garage door open, a cold front comes in and I am back in the house hiding from my freezing studio and achy bones!

It will be warm again this weekend. I'm sure the adult eagles are fine, probably laughing at us mere humans. Eggs will hatch in about two weeks. By then it might be summer :-)

I can't take my eyes off the DC Eagle Cam. The nest is covered in snow and the poor eagle is soaking wet.

My area had no snow all winter. But we're apparently getting whomped tonite on March 13. WAH?!?!

  11. I will be gathering quite a few of these: https://goo.gl/images/NGXZn7. Think they would be good for small amounts of glaze materials? They even come with their own scoops.

Protein powders come in plastic wide mouth jars with screw on lids, and a scoop inside. I guess it's like formula for adults.

  12. Why can't I get my profile picture to show up?

  13. Not happy, not happy. I went to change my profile picture and no matter what I do---and yes, I have read and tried suggestions/instructions from this site--it will not "take" anything, including my original pic. Phooey.

  14. Going to help out with the Adult Ceramics classes on Saturdays for the next 8 weeks at the HS I worked at.

  15. I allowed someone into my studio on Christmas day...I don't do that. But I'm thinking that its going to be OK if I 'open up' a little more. Still processing that thought.

  16. arrived yesterday after 4. Wyo. wind was treacherous with interstate 25 closed to high profile vehicles. Friends stopped by to say hi. Three batches of housewarming gifts. Great to be back in Montana

  17. Slowly getting across Texas. Stopped early today due to snow. made it from San Angelo to Amarillo. 800+ miles total. late start yesterday and early stop today. 8 hours driving yesterday and on;y 7 today. tomorrow Cheyenne or Douglas Wyoming, Things will be warming up a little.

  18. Up to my ears in packing peanuts today. I hate peanuts. Actually, "hate" is not a strong enough word.

I love the popcorn idea, but I don't think I could have done that today. I went through about 20 cubic feet of peanuts.

  19. Spent the last two days cleaning the studio. Everything is shiny and smells like apple-scented Fabuloso. Today I spilled some glaze on the clean floor and was like "NOOOOOOOO!!"

    1. GEP

      GEP

Yup! It's not for a few weeks but I had some off days while waiting for a clay delivery, so I got the cleaning done. Hard part will be to keep it clean until the show.

  20. Looks like I have a causalty of war in the studio. Went out early to shut down the two test kilns: one was frozen in "8888" LED status. Lightning came through at 4am/: think it is fried.

  21. It's getting real, people. I just ordered the gravel base for my concrete kiln pad!

  22. I have made my Christmas production list, and am now terrified...

I love lists. Lists calm me down. Make you realize you don't have to do everything at once. Just one thing at a time.

  23. They accepted our offer on the red Lodge house so we're moving' back to Montana! So excited. We'll probably begin the move with studio equipment and then start showing our house. Should be moving by the Spring.YAY!

  24. Highwater's Clay is much softer than it used to be. Or I was just getting old batches.

I prefer it softer too. Much less fatigue at the end of the day.
