Benzine got a reaction from Joseph Fireborn in How is everyone? It has been a while. Just wanted to check in and say I love and miss
Nice to have you back.  The forum has been a bit quiet lately, not a lot of posting going on.  Can't say I've been terribly active myself...

Before you know it you will be a kiln collector.   I started out with a small kiln,  then bought a large Skutt for sculptures.  When I graduated from college my professor suggested I buy a test kiln.   I just recently had to toss my small kiln it was forty five years old.  I found a small kiln at a estate sale that had only been fired once for cheap.  I am back to my three kiln collection.    I  recently fired the small kiln an it still had that new kiln smell, it made me so happy.  Enjoy your first firing.     Denice

Benzine got a reaction from Gabby in Sad to hear that the world of ceramics is not exempt from it predators . Have a look
The world has its share of bad, or even terrible people and events.  It can be overwhelming,  and discouraging, when we are hearing stories about nothing but.
However, I believe that there is just as much good, if not more so.  The reason, we don't hear about these kinds of (good) people or events as much, is because they are the norm.  It is expected that people will do the right thing.  It is expected that things will work out for the best.  These things are not news, because they are the everyday.
Stories about terrible people and events become news, because they are so different and shocking.  But we need not dwell on them any longer than necessary.  Otherwise we can lose hope, and start to see those terrible things as the new norm, and that is a path we don't want to go down, as a society.

Benzine reacted to oldlady in Mark I was wondering if you had ever used the Wonderbat system. I tried it out today,
denise, i used them for years.  if you dampen the bats themselves, they expand just enough to fit tightly.  you learn to center a little differently if they lift up a bit.  very useful as the pot pops off when it dries enough.

Benzine reacted to Denice in So I'm buying a kiln. Probably a Skutt from Georgie's. How do you like them bananas?
Make sure you get a kiln that is in sections, they are easier to rewire.  I have had a big Skutt for thirty years,  the only thing that bothers me is that I have had to replace the lid three times.  L &L kilns lists  scratch and dent  kilns on there web site,  the government auctions is also a good place to look.  I missed out on a good one near me, they were clearing out a ceramics studio at a air force base.  They sold 3 computer control Skutt for a couple of hundred a piece.   Good Luck.   Denice

Do you have the urge to pull them out, halfway through, and put them in reduction?...
