I made a stamp of some trees, mixed it with a purchased tree stamp and poked a lot of holes in the porcelain. Wasn't sure how to spell the word Picotee- doesn't it need an accent over one of the e's? This one is my ode to xc skiing, when its snowing but very quiet- i.e. all you can hear are your skis in the snow.

Handbuilt stoneware mugs, approximately 12oz capacity, fired cone10. Surface treatment includes 3-d dwelling, carved-out hillside community, and underglaze image transfers. The transfers are new to me...using a CriCut Explore to create silkscreen masks through which thickened underglaze is printed onto rice paper. Once dried, the surface of the mug is coated in underglaze, the transfer is sprayed until saturated, and then pressed/burnished (with pint side to the mug) onto the bisque fired surface. I'm not yet comfortable enough with this technique to try it on greenware but it should work equally well.

Certainly there is a story to these mugs...the short version centers around work in some of the poorest slums in Central/South America in contrast with visits to numerous iconic cites in Europe.

White clay and the same clay with iron oxide wedged into it. The piece was dunked in glaze and then scraped away leaving a pronounced coil texture.

The Fujita scale is a measure of a tornado's intensity based upon the amount of destruction it causes...or how much it eats. Having experienced the destruction, first hand, of an F2 glancing off my home, it wasn't difficult to put a face on the monster that caused destruction in my neighborhood. Only now, new things grow from where the damage occured...thus a container for a plant with the form of the dark cloud of demolition impressed into the side.

This piece was dipped in a dark blue slip and combed lightly. It's designed to serve maple syrup with less drippage than a conventional little pitcher.

Version Two (EF-2) of the Tornado Planter has just started a long drying phase. With the help of Photoshop, I shaded out the messy studio so the planter is a little lot easier to see. This one is about 4" taller than the previous effort and the legs of the Wicked Witch are a little larger as well. The container is three wheel-thrown pieces assembled together with the addition of the 2 hand-built legs and 7 building parts. The entire work is stoneware and roughly 21" tall at the greenware stage.
