I Like To Pack The Glaze Fire Tight

This was Fridays glaze load-the 15th  glaze fire of this year in this kiln-looks like my small kiln also has 15 fires in it. Maybe next year I'll slow down after I cut two shows.

Anyway I try and use all the space with stuffers. This kiln load had lots of stuffers. It takes longer to load-(up to two hours and longer to heat and cool ) but it's worth it.

Some of this load is heading to Anacortes this weekend near Canada-the rest is in shops close by for summer tourists . This season the sales in shops are up as the tourists seem to out doing more traveling.

My plan as always is get some puget sound underwater photography in after the show. This is close to my 25th year doing this show and diving afterwards. Some things are a good fit.Headed for Keystone under water reserve next week on Widbey Island

If you think getting ready for an art show is work try adding a dive trip with that gear on top of it. As well as underwater Photo gear .It not often I pack 4 scuba tank and gear for two to dry suit dive in a show van with pots. Fins pack in the wide spaces well as do weight belts. The Van will weigh in at over 11,000 pound loaded on the trip up.Less coming home. I always weigh it each way. That way I can answer how many pounds I sold for what money. Its a figure many do think about. Kinda like selling brass or bronze metal. whats the per pound price?

So next glaze fire see if you can stuff more in to it? If you can fit a piece of paper between the pots you have plenty of room. The more on a shelf the more efficient it is.Thes shelves are 12x24 advancers

Awesome Mark! As I've commented before, I think this is more than I've made in my four years of potting. If I could throw 10 matching 'anythings' in one day I'd think I'd been productive/clever!

As for combining a big show with a dive trip....well, I'm speechless. I'm quite sure it's great for your well-being to have a hobby that takes you away from your work, especially given your amazing work ethic. Clearly you are one of those people who thrive on it. Well done you!

Hey Mark, we are at Oak Harbour on Whidby Island for a few days. Weather is gorgeous and not too hot. It's been a few years since we were in Anacortes, were there last night. You know that really old Marine / Hardware store at the foot of Commercial? Sad to see its for sale. Wish we there during your market but have to head back home on Thursday.

Over the past 3 decades I have bought a lot of stuff from them-mostly window and back room stuff. Mostly brass. They ordered a specialty tap for my wwII navy dive helmet. I have a huge Perko all brass back deck light from them bought it in the early 90s. My guess is the owner passed away as he was up in years.

I will check them out as Saturdays where always 50% off back room stuff. The last few years they seemed to have a hard time getting the old stuff. I think I have it all now.Marine supply is the name. They have been there forever.I get in on Thursday for setup after 6pm.Oak Harbor is always a bit warmer. I drive thru there everyday after show weekend to dive Keystone at the ferry to Port Townsend-be there Mon-Tues -wens.Have a good trip yourself.By the way my favorite thrift store in the world is in Oak harbor-Island thrift check it out. That where i found the best hot waxer  pan ever.

Thanks for the tip re thrift store, will check it out. I actually found one of those large round electric pans that you wrote about a few weeks back at a garage sale for $20- works great.

Have a safe drive and dive and great sales!

Wow! Look at all the pretties!

I just have a little Skutt hobby kiln, but I pack it as best I can! But I'm at the point where I'm learning the idiosyncrasies of glaze and firing, and it's reminding me of when I was learning to make fudge: it's all alchemy. At least until I get it figured out.
