what is a "ball syringe"?

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much! I wasn't planning to do a sliptrail - I was reading that it was used for texturing

the gorgeous sea urchin pots in this October issue.

Here they are! :

You could probably get one at your drugstore.

Or, there is one at HighWater clays, at the bottom right of this page :

Are you going to sliptrail with it?

Also known as a bulb syringe, easily found in any baby supply area's of pharmacies, walmart, Target and such.

I'm fairly new to pottery, and have just read that someone uses a "ball syringe."

I've done a brief google, and haven't been able to come up with anything relevant, so

hope that someone can let me know what this is, and where to find a photo of the tool

Thanks!

I loved these too ... I'm a great fan of PMI and have been a UK subscriber for years - we don't have such a useful, practical and down-to-earth magazine over here, so I rejoice every other month when the latest issue plops through the letterbox

.... sorry to stray from the subject in hand!

It is a baby's ear or nose syringe for removal fluids. I used one with a cut off tip and inserted a hypodermic needle (as seen in May '97 CM article).

However, if you are going to use thick slip for texturing, you will find it hard to clean. I saw a very cool video on Ceramics Art Daily I think,

where someone used mylar wrapping paper to make roll up cones. Put the slip in there , cut off the tip to desired size, and squeezed to decorate with embossed slip decoration. Very simple and easy to do.
