Reylocs
Can someone tell me what material paragon's peep hole plugs are made out of. I need to make a part that has high thermal shock resistance, part of this part will be in the kiln and a very small rim or lip will be on the outside. I thought that peep hole plug material would be a good candidate. The peep hole plugs that came with my paragon kiln look like a good material. Anyone know what there made out of. Marcia Selsor
I make them with a raku clay base, wedge in some extra grog, a lot of sawdust, put pinholes in it and done. Marcia
High Bridge Pottery
Not sure what they send with pargon. I have one that looks very similar to kiln shelf, and one that is unglazed porcelain. Insulating fire brick is good too.
Mark C.
I have cast them in porcelain for electric kilns and carved them in soft brick for high fire kins. Mark
Pres
I used to use the clay body I had at school, wedge in extra grog, make into a tear drop shape and jam into the peep hole, let them dry to bone dry and then fire the kiln with them in. However, I think Reyloks is looking for a thermal shock resistant material. I would think a grogged clay at the temperature he is firing would work. Chris Campbell
Ok ... Great time to insert this plug for the Skutt Peep Hole Plug competition .... They have them out for viewing at NCECA and it is so much fun to see how crazy and creative potters are. http://www.skutt.com/peepholeplug/
Rex Johnson
You can make your own with some soft fire brick.
