Along with the Facebook, Twitter, Etsy, Flickr, accounts one seems expected to upkeep add your blog to the list. My question is: How many of you have one or don't? Have you seen a significant difference in sales as a result? How long have you had it and how often do you post? Do you follow any blogs and if so what keeps you comin back? My sales have grown a lot since I began blogging, but I think that has to do with a lot of factors. I do think blogging has grown my mailing list by a lot. How long have you had it and how often do you post? Started in summer 2009. I post about twice a month. Blogging is not a formula for success, there are lots of boring/lazy/cliche blogs out there, I doubt those have any benefit to a business. Too many people blogging these days (my opinion) with nothing to say! In the past, I have really disliked searching, reading, studing, etc on the computer. Not because I was lazy or anything but I like to hold it, turn the pages, interact with it. I realize that not all information is in print and that this is the 21 century but I can't spend hours doin it. And that's exactly how long it takes for me to figure stuff out, hours. Even on this sight, I couldn't figure out how to get my pics in the gallery. I felt like such a dope! Over the past year I have been slowly getting into facebook (mostly for my other buisness) and I'm working on my Etsy shop (had it since jan2010, never did a thing to it untill 2 days ago). I guess I must over come the knowledge gap that I have. You said "do it because you have something to say". I have something to say but not all things said are worth hearing. Not exactly sure if what I have to say is all that great or different and I don't want to be one of those boring blogs. But, I agree with you about Whitney's blog, it's good and I enjoying hearing her experiences. I've never seen the other blog but I'm going to check it out. I have been using it to talk about my work, and display it. I also present some of the technical challenges that I have overcome on it. In the end it is just an outlet, nothing more. Benhim Posted October 28, 2011 Report Share Posted October 28, 2011 I have a blog and I only started it because someone told me I should be blogging. She encouraged me to start by saying it might help increase sales, however I find that I do it for myself, not for my business or customers. I try to include information that I want later as well as what's going on and some thoughts on present work and future works. It captures all of this and keeps a record for me. I'm not a journal kind of person and I type over 60 wpm while I hand write like an 8 year old, so this format really works for me. Maybe customers like reading it, maybe they don't. It's great to see what other potters are doing and if they're the honest types that are not just trying to make themselves look good you can see their mistakes which really helps avoid making the same ones. icyone Posted December 30, 2011 Report Share Posted December 30, 2011 One thing about blogs is they get indexed a lot fasted than a traditional site by the search engines. If one keeps up with posting relevant words in post will show up on search engines withing a day or even hours sometimes while a traditional HTML site will take a few weeks to get indexed with new conten.
