Briggs Shore
Hi all. I've decided to switch clays. I'm in a community studio that fires to ^6, and want a white or off white body with a smooth feel. Smooth is important because I do a lot of drawing and carving and don't want big chunks of grog messing up my lines. There's a Blick in town that carries a few Amaco clays and I thought I'd give them a try. Does anyone have experience with their #46 Buff Stoneware or #38 White Stoneware? Thanks so much. PSC
A student of mine used a cone 6 amaco white...don't know which one...he used it for handbuilding...it fired a bit more yellow than Standard brand 240 that the class uses. It seemed smooth but i notice once he used it all he stuck with the standard 240 after that. It fired fine with our amaco glazes.
Briggs Shore
I went ahead and got a box of the #46. Much easier to throw than the Frost. I know porcelain can be difficult, but I didn't know how much extra work was going into fussing over it. Now for some glaze tests.
