Reza Hosseiny
Hello Everybody, Is it possible to reapply gold luster onto specific areas of an existing gold luster glaze and refire it to correct imperfections? Due to time constraints, I'm unable to conduct a test beforehand, and lacking access to a testing kiln, I'd prefer not to fire the main kiln for this purpose. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Mark C.
I think its best to fire off the old imperfections 1st than start over especially if its rough surface. Luster need a smooth shiny glaze to work well on top of. Min and Rae Reich
Rae Reich
Lusters are tricky because they are so sensitive to firing temperatures and each subsequent firing has to be just a little bit lower than the last to prevent burning off previous work. Refire the piece to a bit higher than the first gold firing to burn it off and start fresh. Reza Hosseiny
Reza Hosseiny
Thank you Rae! I appreciate your response. I fired them at come 18 . What if I correct the mistakes and fire again at come 19? Does this doable?

I erased the mistakes now and I just need to add a little bit of gold around the outlines.
Rae Reich
@Reza Hosseiny, that will depend on if your gold luster matures enough at ^019. Generally, that rule applies to planned application of layers. You might try for a temperature a little closer to the previous one, if you have that much control over your firing.
Mark C.
Luster needs the same temp every time .(so as noted above ,cone 019 is that temp no matter what) Refiring can be improve or not-it just that way-try and see. Rae Reich
Mark C.
Luster fire is so low firing a main kiln is no big deal its just dull red heat
