Zeeb
For years I’ve used a recipe for “Oribe”, a transparent medium green cone 6 glaze. The last batch I mixed the zinc oxide had formed pellets that wouldn’t go through my sieve. This has happened before with little noticeable effect. This time every piece with Oribe ran and stuck to the kiln wash, and several pieces formed sharp bubbles. Any ideas how to proceed?
Min
Hi and welcome to the forum. Zinc oxide will absorb moisture from the air if it's not kept in an airtight container and result in little hard lumps. You can re-calcine the zinc by firing it to 800-900F then regrind it or some people simply put the lumpy zinc in a blender and grind it up. Mark C.
I use a shop blender for all zinc =think zinc margarita and blend away then add that measure beaten zinc to bucket and sieve normally.
