Pearlescent Glaze or Luster

If you’re firing MOP, it will look like a pearlescent version of the (shiny) glaze underneath, whatever that happens to be. 

You did mention it needing to be food safe. That term can be a bit vague, because there’s no legal or technical definition of it when you’re making your own glazes.  To simplify for this thread, the usual concerns are with leaching and durability. While MOP probably won’t poison you off, Duncan does say in their guide that it is safe to apply to food surfaces, but it will wear away over time, or with hard scrubbing. It is only a very thin layer of material that’s on the surface of the glaze, not integrated with it.

Claer shiny glazes show it off best

As mentioned it will wear off and should not be put in a dishwasher

I think of lusters as not food safe but they are  to some degree-they just wear off easy-think gold lines on china that wear thin fast with use. They are a top coat just barely fluxed

I have some gold on a flask that wore off in my 20s pretty fast.
