Shimpo VL-Lite wheel

Recommended Posts

So it occurred to me today that I haven't turned my wheel on for 10 years.  The Shimpo VL-Lite is belt driven and it spent 8 years in the High Sierra Desert in hot garages so I'm betting that belt is shot.  Hopefully nothing else is.  It's packed properly in its original shipping box.

What do I need to do to make sure its ok before I just turn it on and let 'er rip?  Check the condition of the belt, for sure, but any kind of lubrication or other stuff to attend to?

Maybe give the wheel a tentative spin by hand - in the direction you prefer to throw in; how's that sound and feel?
From there, give the other direction a try; how's that sound and feel?

Then power it up.
