Jessg
Hey guys, I’m new to ceramics and in the process of setting up a home studio. Hand building and wheel. I don’t have a kiln yet so no need to worry about that. I have two options on where to put my small studio: a spare room inside the house with only one window, or outside on my covered porch. I would prefer it outside but here’s my dilemma: i live in south Florida with high humidity and rainy summers. Will the moisture in the air prevent my pieces from drying or ruin my equipment in any way? thank you in advance!
neilestrick
I'd put it indoors, where you own't be at the mercy of the weather. Trying to regulate drying outdoors is difficult.
oldlady
indoors if possible. my friend in st petersburg has his studio outside immediately next to his house, enclosed by one of those screen protectors people use around a swimming pool. he does not get to work on the cold days or on th super hot ones. you may not experience 50-60 degree cold but the hot days are probably longer for you. AC in your area is a necessity.
Katie Piro
Indoors! I also have my studio set up in a spare bedroom in my house. It works out really well. The high humidity will definitely mess with the drying times of your pieces. Good luck!
LeeU
Studio inside, kiln on the porch. Plan it out precisely & with attention to work flow. Think about ease of use--i.e. things w/locking wheels.
