Design the cut areas to fit into the other areas (inner outer)so glaze is not so critical or consider epoxy and paint it or colored caulks 

or no glaze in meeting areas-lots of ways to do it before you make it-once you make it you are committed to whatever process you come up with.

As Mark has said, design is important. I did a group project in the HS years ago where we designed a totem, and each table would build a piece. Each piece had to have overlapping sections that fit over the section below. Each piece had to have repeated elements from the section directly below, thus unifying each piece into the whole. This also promoted collaboration on the design and texture elements. My kiln at the time would handle 28" height, and we had a 7' totem at the end.
