cambriapottery
Anyone who is a wood firing potter out here today? I need to buy a pair that can withstand intense heat. So far we have pretty totalled a couple of fairly expensive gloves. Does anyone have a recommendation for and where I might find a more durable pair? neilestrick
In my wood firing days I always just used cheap welding gloves. I always got many firings out of them, like a couple dozen. You just have to make sure you're not sticking your hand too far inside the firebox.
LeeU
I would just add that it is worth the money to get the leather welder's gloves that are rated for the highest temperatures and also get the longest sleeve that you can.
Mark C.
Leather weilder gloves hold up the best but for lighter work these are m,y favorites as they stay much cooler than leather .I keep a few pairs around to brick up mt kiln ports with hard brick after shutting down reduction fires. https://www.axner.com/kevlarcono-guardglovessetof2.aspx they also sell sleeves but they are really spendy.
