bluecreekpottery
I use manufactured glaze. Why does my glaze crack sometimes? Usually a random crack so I'm not sure if it crazing.... Sometimes it cracks days later as well.
Min
Maybe post a picture but it sounds like crazing. If it is then it's because that glaze doesn't fit that claybody. Like putting a pair of size 6 jeans on a size 10 body, the fabric is under tension and will tear (craze) to fit the larger body. This can happen when the glaze cools in the kiln or later on (delayed crazing). Fairly brief article on fixing crazing here.
Marcia Selsor
there are easy remedies by adding a bit of perhaps silica or whatever is lacking in the glaze to fit your clay body. Marcia
Pres
I would also say that a crack that occurs later after several days could be a cooling dunt. When do you open your kiln up? Is the temperature within a 100 degrees of outside temp? Opening the kiln too early can cause pots to crack immediately or within a week or two. best, Pres
