Underglaze Leaving A Stain

Hi I am using very white clay. When I paint the impression with Amaco brown velvet underglaze it stains it to a buff color. My old clay didn't do that, the brown stsyed in the impression but wiped right off the area around it . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean around the underglazed area, there is staining?

 

If that's the case, some underglazes have a tendency to do that.  You can get a bit of color transfer, in between stacked projects and on the kiln shelves.

Some underglazes will stain the color others won't. Speedball brown underglaze wipes off well.

Maybe the underglaze has wax in it/contaminated? Sometimes I used nail varnish remover (acetone) to get these stains off.

Have you fired it yet?  Sometimes it fires out.  I guess I usually put clear over the stain.  I am not sure if the clear takes care of the staining or if enough is wiped out that is burns off.

Probably could impress, paint around with liquid wax then underglaze. Would be efficient If not a complicated elaborate stamp.
