terrim8
Hi, I have a small amount of wood ash and it is not enough to process and I don't want to mix it with other wood ash. What would happen, in the firing & end result if I just sprinkled some on my raw, still wet, high fire stoneware bowls around the edges, prior to bisquing ? Any predictions? Mark C.
Hopefully you have enough to cover your ash.
terrim8
what can I say? Bare ask that one again.
Mark C.
Some ash will flux well at cone 10. I only put it directly on wares in my salt fire so cannot say on in a reduction cone atmosphere what will happen. As far as on wet wares the ash will stick and not change in the bisque-the real question is the glaze fire. Sound like you need to try this for yourself. My use of ash is ash glazes or ash over glaze sprinkled on.
bciskepottery
Sprinkle the ash on for the glaze load, not bisque. Your bisque temperature is not hot enough to melt the ash -- it will come out rough feeling.
MatthewV
"work" is such a relative term. I wouldn't expect problems that cause damage. I also wouldn't have high hopes of perfection in the results.
terrim8
Thanks! I will use it during the glaze part.
